More in the series of Places I Love – today my trekking buddy Trudi and I went on a mission to find the mysterious pink castle at the back of Wrights Hill, Karori. Yes, a pink castle. Apparently that is the exterior colour du jour for late 20th century castles. Unfortunately the clouds rolled over the tops of the hills and we couldn’t get our bearings to find the castle. Instead we saw magnificent views, tussocky bush forever, a Zealandia full of native birds, the Brooklyn Wind Turbine and an Emu/Ostrich (?) farm on our 2.5 hour epic hill climb.
The Ostrich – couldn’t tell if he was menacing or friendly, but was very glad for the tall fence around him!
